We are going Net Zero

We have created this page for the project "We are going NetZero". Here we will present in video series the path we have taken, the results and insights we have gained, and the plans derived from them.

In addition, we will regularly report here about interesting things in the context of NetZero and introduce our partners.

The concern and content of Net Zero concepts is the production of CO2 neutral products by not releasing any CO2 into the atmosphere during their production or by taking the CO2 emissions back from the atmosphere.

Syncraft has carried out a joint project with Chamber of commerce Tyrol and the Regional Management Schwaz. The aim of this project was to determine all emissions along the entire value chain in order to then reduce and compensate the remaining emissions Scope 1+2 in further steps. The results are now available and are published here.

As a climate pioneer, Syncraft wants to make this leap by 2030 at the latest, which would be 20 years ahead of the internationally issued target in 2050.

We are going NetZero – Carbon Removals and their Role on the Road to Climate Neutrality

Climate neutrality is the buzzword when it comes to a future worth living in. On the one hand, we know that we have to drastically reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to achieve this, and not just since the alarming current report of the #IPCC (see https://www.ipcc.ch/report/sixth-assessment-report-cycle/). In order to achieve the EU's goal of being climate neutral by 2050, hundreds of millions of tons of CO2eq will have to be removed from the atmosphere in addition to all the reduction measures - with so-called "carbon removals". These are measures and projects that remove CO2 or CO2 equivalents (CO2eq) from the earth's atmosphere using natural or technological solutions.

The itself renowned organisation "VERRA" is confronted with massive criticism of #greenwashing. This raises the question more topical than ever: Which providers of offsets can be trusted? Which certificates are actually used to offset CO2eq.?

Human activities produce over 50 billion tons of greenhouse gases annually. An almost unimaginable amount of (mainly) carbon dioxide, which increases the greenhouse effect and thus further promotes climate change.

We are going net zero - And Microsoft is doing it too (with biochar)

The software giant Microsoft wants to become carbon negative by 2030, i.e. take more CO2 out of the atmosphere than it produces itself. To achieve this, the company is using various technologies, as it explains comprehensively in its sustainability report. One of the methods used to store CO2 is the production of biochar.

In the Net0 project, Syncraft has recorded its complete CO2 footprint, initiated reduction measures and offset unavoidable Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by retiring the aliquot amount of carbon credits based on biochar. The importance of biochar as a medium for storing CO2 and the potential uses of the technology for its production are underlined in a recently published technical briefing. In addition, the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) has published a highly recommended technical information on biochar as part of the klimaaktiv https://www.klimaaktiv.at/ initiative.

In order to vigorously pursue the Paris climate targets, in particular the 1.5°C target, it is necessary for all industrial and commercial enterprises to become aware of their own overall CO2 footprints.

In the future, CO2 accounting must be as meticulously precise and integrated into business processes as financial accounting currently is. At least it should be!
